The World in London

July 26, 2012

The Photographer’s Gallery launched yesterday the exhibition The World in London.

In The World in London, 204 people from the 204 nations taking part in the Olympics 2012 are captured by 204 photographers.

There are some great portraits and the photographers commissioned include JH Engström (Georgia), Pieter Hugo (Rwanda), Tom Hunter (Iceland), Nadav Kander (Lesotho), Martin Parr (São Tomé and Príncipe), Rankin (Niger), Stephen Shore (Kazakhstan), and Alec Soth (Netherlands).

Have a look at the website on which you can also find the portrait of Amna from the United Arab Emirates, that I took last summer.

The exhibition is in Victoria Park until the 12th of August and at Park House until the 30th of August, opposite Selfridges. If you pass by you should definitely check it out.

Olivia Arthur

May 12, 2012

I just found out that 2 minutes up my street is a photo gallery.

At the moment there is an exhibition of young Magnum photographers. I loved especially the project of Olivia Arthur on women in Saudi Arabia. It’s nice to see work about this topic, which feels different from what I have seen before! Also the pictures and the book have both amazing quality.

Reinaldo Loureiro

April 16, 2012

I came already a while ago across Reinaldo Loureiro’s Hothouse. Recently a friend reminded me of the project: It’s great work about the mass production of vegetables in Almeria.

Apple Misfits

April 1, 2012

© Freya Najade

Apples above failed to meet the quality characteristics set by supermarkets. Reasons for rejected fruit from left to right:

Royal Gala I: Shape – More than 10 percent of the fruit is misshapen, more than 10 mm offset.

Royal Gala II: Colour – Less than 40 percent of the surface shows a good red striped colouration.

Royal Gala III: Blemish – Superficial defects, which exceed more than 5 percent of the fruit.

The marks, shape and colour have no impact on the taste of fruit.
